How to Get Wrinkles out of Polyester

Whether you are dealing with polyester clothes, curtains, tablecloths, or comforters, these tips will help you remove wrinkles from the fabric.

Step 1: Press the fabric
Cover the polyester fabric with a pressing cloth and iron it. Don't let the iron come in direct contact with the polyester.

Tip
Spray the item with a light mist of water before you begin ironing.

Step 2: Wash the item
Wash the item and hang it on your clothesline. Do not wring it out first; the weight of the water will help force the wrinkles out.

Tip
As a variation on this method, hang the item over a clothes steamer and let the steam draw the wrinkles out.

Step 3: Use a washer with a permanent press cycle
Place the item in the washer and use the permanent press cycle. When the cycle is finished, place it in the dryer using the permanent press setting.

Step 4: Remove item from dryer
Remove the item from the dryer as soon as it is finished running, and hang it up to prevent further wrinkles.

Did You Know?
Heat and water remove wrinkles in polyester by breaking and reforming molecular bonds in the fabric.

  6. Or.....you could just mist it and throw in the dryer for a minute. That works perfectly.....just sayin.

  8. This really helped me out! I got these polyester euro shams from Bb&b online and when they came they were so wrinkled. Like despairingly wrinkled where I questioned are they worth taking to the dry cleaners to get pressed. The fabric is so thin and delicate I was afraid to really do anything without research. I pretty much turned them inside out, put them on a rinse and spin cycle with cold water. Ironed with medium heat and steam with a old hand towel over the sham and hung them on the line to air dry. Bravo! They look amazing! And I didn't have to go to the cleaners!

  9. Is that pressing cloth anything special, or would just a thin, old piece of bed sheet do as well?
