When it comes to installation, you have the option of having professionals install it for you or you can take the challenge and install the carpet yourself. The DIY carpet installation may not be as easy as it seems but a few tips can help ease out the process and get you the desired results in the end.
1. Clean out the installation space. One of the best ways of ensuring that you avoid lumps and wrinkles on the carpet it to clean out the entire space where the carpet is going to be installed. Cleaning the surface also ensures that you do not trap any dirt and dust under the carpet. It is important that you let the surface dry out well before you start with the installation process.
2. Have the necessary tools handy. To have a smooth installation process, you should first ensure that you have all the tools needed for the process. This will save you time when installing because you know exactly where the tool you need is. Apart from having all the needed tools for the installation, you must have the know how to use them properly so that you avoid damaging the carpet, the surfaces or even injuring yourself when using. Some of the most important tools include carpet stretcher, carpet tape and utility knife.
3. Consider the carpet pile direction when seaming your carpet pieces. If you fail to do this then it will prove difficult to join carpet pieces in proper order, especially if they have patterns on them. There should be consistency one piece to the other and you should trust your eyes even for the carpets that are not patterned.
4. Avoid placing tack strips against the wall to ensure that carpet remains tight but n flexible condition during the installation. Let the gap be a little less compared to the carpet thickness to achieve this effect.
5. Be careful when trimming the carpet. Your carpet should be trimmed to proper size and chalk lines can help you get it right when you roll out the carpet onto the surface. Let the chalk line be from notch to notch and then cut the back of the carpet along the chalk line. Roll out the carpet over the surface and ensure that it is perfectly straight before you cut out the excess. It is important that you leave about 3 inches near walls before you trim it.
6. After installing the carpet, vacuum it on a regular basis to reduce fiber shedding and to keep the carpet in proper condition. In case you found single carpet turfs extended over the carpet surface, avoid pulling it off and instead clip it; this will help avoid running other fibers leaving your carpet damaged.
