How to Get Wrinkles out of Leather and Suede
Watch more Stains & Laundry videos:
Keep your leather and suede looking its best and get the wrinkles out.
Step 1: Place cloth on
Place butcher paper, grocery bag, or cotton cloth over the wrinkled leather or suede.
Step 2: Heat iron
Turn the iron on low to medium heat, and place the iron onto the bag or cloth. Iron until the wrinkles have smoothed out.
Tip
Be careful not to overheat the fabric. Overheating can cause the garment to burn or become shiny.
Step 3: Hang
Hang up your leather or suede piece in the bathroom, if wrinkles remain. Keep the piece away from the shower, to protect it from any water that may splash out.
Step 4: Run shower
Run a hot shower and let the steam relax the wrinkles.
Step 5: Lay flat
Remove the article from the bathroom and lay it on a flat surface. Smooth out the wrinkles with your hands.
Step 6: Blow-dry the wrinkles
Blow-dry the garment if wrinkles still remain. Make sure to keep the blow-dryer moving to prevent damage to one spot.
Step 7: Store garment
Store the garment in a closet, but don't fold it or put it in a bag -- allowing air to circulate will make it less likely that your garment will wrinkle. Now put on that leather jacket and show it off!
Did You Know?
Studies by the Centers for Disease Control found a higher incidence of leukemia among populations living near tanneries, and other research has shown highly elevated cancer rates among tannery workers.

......Um....or how about just using/buying a steamer or taking it to the dry cleaner with all of this "if the wrinkles remain" situations and scenarios?
ReplyDelete@HummodysBaby Leather is made from animal skin, normally cow hide. Cow hide is turned into leather at a tannery, where they remove the hair and flesh and actually tan the hide, which can be done different ways. A tannery is for leather, I believe that you're thinking of a tanning salon.
ReplyDeletejust don't use leather and be a vegan
ReplyDeletethanks!
ReplyDeleteDon't use butcher paper that has a shiny side! It will melt onto the leather.
ReplyDeletehere's a better how to, step 1 get a steamer, step 2 use the steamer. step 3 condition your leather.
ReplyDeleteQUICK TIP: For good suede jackets, vests and skirts do not iron and no need to hang in steamy bathroom. Hang garment in open air, apply a very gentle misting with mineral-free water to wrinkled area...do not soak wet. Let stand briefly to aid softening and blow dry with low, warm setting (constantly move dryer to avoid shine). Do not heat wrinkles, then finish off with cool air when wrinkles look smooth. Repeat if necessary, let air dry a minimum of few hours to set smooth. Gently brush nap.
