Wrinkles Of The City: Havana, Cuba
In 2012, French artist JR and Cuban American artist José Parlá collaborated on The Wrinkles of the City - Havana, Cuba: huge mural installations undertaken for the Havana Biennale, for which JR and Parlá photographed, and recorded 25 senior citizens who had lived through the Cuban revolution; creating portraits, which Parlá interlaced with calligraphic writings and abstract painterly gestures. This is their film collaboration by the same title documenting their experience.

Does anyone know the song starts at 18:32 ?

ReplyDeleteGreat video now i miss cuba
ReplyDeleteJust finished my 7th trip to Cuba a few days ago and always wondered about these portraits. the only answer I could get in Havana was they were and art project. Cuban's are amazing their happiness is contagious. That said I fear soon the crime and life style of the west if coming very fast. I can see a Time when Havana is more like Brazil. I hope not, they increased the amount of police on the streets and it has had a large effect on those try to make money off tourists. Nice video .... most of these portraits are still on display.
ReplyDeletebrilliant job guys

ReplyDeleteAww they're so beautiful
ReplyDeleteMediocre photography at best and not-so-impressive, even sloppy "street art"... big installation is what makes it cool.
ReplyDeleteThis video remembers me of the wonderful family i left 12 years ago even thought i go every year this video made me cry
ReplyDeleteWhat is the song at 18:13
ReplyDeleteFABULOUS PRODUCTION!
ReplyDeleteReally beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI have mixed feelings about this. Ofcourse it's beautiful art, my compliments; but putting it smack in the middle of "unspoiled" terrain as the two American artists do, doesn't feel completely right. They wield the kindness of the local people and put their own product on "their" walls to then get angry when some local people want to clear the wall again, it's "a little" rude. It defiles it all a little so it feels. Yet again, it's beautiful..
ReplyDeleteI'll buy the whole city for $1.73 and a bottle of water.
ReplyDeleteI love the music with this I just wish I knew what it was???
ReplyDeleteLove the art one hundred percent.
I was hurt when the guy said we are gonna take it down... I was like you WHAT!????
Simply beautiful..
ReplyDeleteI need not go beyond 1:45 to be startled by the BRAZENLY lying people who posted this.
ReplyDeleteThere ARE NO PORTRAITS OF FIDEL ANYWHERE IN CUBA! It's Ché, Ché, Ché, all day long, Hemingway, Hemingway, Hemingway... all day long. Sprinkle with a bit of José Marti.
These hideous executioners are the iconic images plastering the country and poisoning the world for half a century.
My home :'(
ReplyDeleteThe guy with a tattoo on his right shoulder/arm wanted to wash away the art oh the irony
ReplyDeleteLive cuba free
ReplyDeleteCool video. I would like to visit cuba one day.
