How Facelift Surgery Targets Wrinkles?

A facelift will approach these areas of the face by elevating the skin and deep tissues to create a different contour, which is what makes you appear younger and alleviates wrinkle. Wrinkles around the jowl and neck area will be drastically improved and almost completely taken back. Wrinkles around the eye, however, will generally need some other cosmetic procedure or laser treatment. Wrinkles of the forehead are not addressed with a facelift but may be treated with a browlift. Wrinkles that persist after the procedure, including crow's feet, may be treated with Botox or facial fillers as well.

Facelifts are different today than they used to be. People today generally want to look natural and younger and not have anyone see tell-tale signs of surgery. A facelift isn't going to remove every single wrinkle, nor should it, but it will target deep wrinkles.

Patients with many fine wrinkles and a history of sun exposure often get a facelift, eyelid surgery and browlift along with laser skin resurfacing to elevate the tissues of the face to treat deep wrinkles and restore a more youthful appearance as well as make the skin surface smoother and tighter.

Will a Facelift Get Rid of Your Wrinkles?

A facelift is designed to produce a fresh appearance by smoothing loose skin on the neck and face, tightening underlying tissue and removing excess fat. Patients with strong, well defined bone structure and good skin elasticity will see the best results. Not all wrinkles can be addressed with a facelift, but many can be softened, including deep creases from the corner of the nose to the mouth.

The only way to know if your face will be wrinkle free, or nearly wrinkle free, is scheduling a consultation with a board-certified cosmetic surgeon to discuss the treatments that will be most effective for your face. If a facelift alone will not address your specific concerns, your surgeon can discuss other treatments that may be done instead or in conjunction with the facelift.
